Pau Gonzalez Parés I Surf Photographer & Filmmaker

The Ocean has given me life and it has almost taken it away. It is one of the only things that puts you into your place and makes you realize how small you are.

The Ocean is life. We all come from the ocean, like it or not, and there is a force that attracts us to it. Surfing is a natural way to be connected with it at a higher mental and physical state. To me, surfing is everything and it has changed my life. It has opened the doors to great adventures. I have travelled around the world searching for waves and I have experienced the most amazing feeling from it. Actually, the time I realized that I wanted to dedicate my life to surf photography was during a trip in Indonesia. Let me go briefly through it.

I went to Indo with a bunch of friends, one of them had a photo camera, a quite shitty one. I asked him if I could have a go at it.

I remember sitting at the top of a cliff. A left hander was perfectly breaking underneath us. This one random surfer took one of the set waves. At this point, I had the camera in my hands pointing at him, following him throughout his ride and waiting for the perfect moment to press the shutter. Remember the shitty camera? Ok, so no burst mode, only one shot at a time.

There I am, in Indo, on top of a cliff, left hand break, surfer up and riding, and I'm waiting and waiting for the perfect moment to shoot. The surfer suddenly goes down, bottom turns, comes up with speed and... braaa!! Big drawn lay back turn (my camera fires) with tons of spray everywhere.

That moment felt like looking into the eyes of the person you love. This weird, yet exciting energy ran through my veins and right there I knew I had fallen in love with surf photography.

My mum always said I hated routine so bad since my early days. I guess my interest in arts and being a bad student helped me fall in love with a form of creation that would set me free in life. If you mix all that up and add the love for nature... well, you have a perfect combo!

"Always see beauty" is one of my favorite sayings. I think life sums up pretty much to that.

All of my favourite images are a reflection of a state of mind, and I want people to go deep into their feelings and dig out all those feels from the inside.

I mostly like to capture timeless moments, fragile and unique encounters between nature and nature, or perhaps us.

My goal is to make people think and feel out of the box, to make them go beyond the image they have in front of them.

If you are reading this and never surfed before... I have to tell you, you should probably leave whatever you are doing and go surf. It will change your life, too.
